Whoever you are and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here. Everyone is welcome at our worship experiences, church events, and every aspect of our Christian life. If you’d like to get more involved, we invite you to contribute to our thriving boards, committees and worship services. Check out the video to see what people from Rhinelander UCC say about being a part of our inclusive faith community and explore this website to discover unique ways we’re living a spiritual life here in the Northwoods.

We adopted the following Mission Statement in January 2013 at our Church meeting:

Whoever you are and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here at Rhinelander United Church of Christ.

Vision Statement (Click to View)

We adopted the following Vision Statement in January 2013 at our Church meeting:

We value religious freedom and the accompanying responsibility to explore and put into action the teachings of Jesus using our own unique experiences, questions, and ideas.

We strive to balance our rich religious past with openness to the new ideas, people, and possibilities.

We envision an alternate, open-minded and inclusive community of faith in which:

  • We believe that God, however you/we define God, is all-loving and inclusive.
  • Our congregation welcomes and accepts everyone as they are.
  • Our minds are nourished as much as our souls.
  • We affirm our responsibility, as members of the United Church of Christ, that in each generation we make faith our own in reality of worship, in honesty of thought and expression.
  • Jesus is rediscovered and made relevant for the 21st century world and its people.
  • We grow a just and peaceful world together through action.

Open and Affirming Statement (Click to View)

As members of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Rhinelander, we believe that while we are many, we are one body in Christ. We are called to love one another, to do justice, to bring release to the oppressed, and to walk humbly with our God.

Recognizing insensitivities and prejudices that segments of our society experience, we want it known that we extend welcome to individuals of every race, gender, age, physical and mental ability, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, national and religious background. We are inclusive in our invitation to participate in the ministry of the community of faith, including membership, leadership, and employment. All are invited to participate in the full life of the church, including but not limited to: the sacraments of baptism and communion, rites of confirmation, and ceremonies of marriage or covenant as allowed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin.

The example of Jesus’ love is our guide.

Our Christian thinking is progressive. We think our Mission and Vision Statements say it all, but come and find out for yourself what “progressive” means. We have no dress code. We’re in the Northwoods! Come as you are. The first people you you’ll meet when you join us for worship will be members of our Welcoming Team. They’ll gladly answer any questions you have and help address any special needs for seating or assisted hearing devices. They’ll give you directions to the nursery, where you can sit with your child and listen to the service at the same time, and they’ll give you directions to the Kids’ Studio (Sunday School room for children ages four to twelve). Or they’ll give you a Children’s Activity Pack if your child is going to stay with you in the service. Kids are welcome in the service! We ask that you let them explore our church as they would any new place and we don’t mind if they make a little noise. Almost every Sunday we hold a Fellowship Hour following our worship during which coffee and snacks are served. The Welcoming Team will introduce you to others in our community/congregation.

Religion that makes you re-think religion: that’s the United Church of Christ. Less dogmatic and judgmental, more open-minded and affirming. Whoever you are and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

Our monthly Worship 4U2 takes place in an informal setting: the Dean Theatre (room #) and we provide an eclectic mix of contemporary music, poetry, essays, discussion and contemplation. (See the) Worship times and dates can be found at the bottom of this page. Our weekly service is rich with provocative ideas, great organ music, and a comfortable, traditional feel. Our Christian thinking is progressive. Come see what it’s about.

We welcome kids from all faith backgrounds and all types of families. Our Kids’ Studio, known in some places as “Sunday School”, takes place each Sunday during our traditional weekly service (see bottom of this page for times). You never know what we’ll be doing: making pizza to serve to the congregation, creating cards for veterans on Veterans’ Day, enjoying a visit from The Cowardly Lion, or crawling through a maze to try to “beat the clock” and win at Bible Trivia. Activities are planned around monthly themes developed by our team of teachers and include topics such as courage, faith, and service. We “grow” our own curriculum based on personal relationships with our kids and with each other.
Your children ages five to twelve are welcome in Kids’ Studio
