Peace between Palestine and Israel

On June 8th, Sandy McKitrick and Lisa Johnson traveled to Green Lake Conference Center to attend the 62nd Annual meeting of the Wisconsin Conference of the United Church of Christ.  The Conference voted to overwhelmingly pass “Resolution of Witness to Adopt the 2021 General Synod Resolution, declaration for a Just Peace Between Palestine and Israel.”  Copies of the Declaration are available in the Narthex.

The process for adopting a resolution of witness calls for a vote of the Annual Meeting, followed by one yar of study and engagement by local congregations, and a confirming vote at the next year’s Annual Meeting.

The resolution process calls for at least 30% of the congregations to report that they have engaged in some study.  This study can be in the manner chosen by the local church, and can be simply discussion.  No action needs to be taken or decision voted on.  Responses expected by May 1, 2025.

A vote to formally adopt the resolution would be held at the Annual Meeting in June 2025.  Support and resources are available through Palestine Justice Working Group (lhart@wcucc.org).
